Doormats keep things clean!

Multi-functional Doormats

multi-functional mats

Doormats are something we all use, but rarely notice or appreciate.

There are different types of doormat with different benefits. Here we look at just a few of those types.

The initial barrier faced by dirt and nasties to your home, is the outdoor entrance mat. Located outside in the elements, it traps dirt and moisture and leaves them at the door.
Used to scrape soil and dirt from shoes, outdoor entrance mats drastically reduce the heavy dirt entering your house. Years of design and application have resulted in mats being produced having ‘self-draining’ qualities that allow water to leave the surface of the mat. They are made of robust materials for a robust purpose.

Indoor mats

The next barrier any remaining nasties face are indoor mats. Restricting more dirt missed by the outdoor mat, but to a lesser degree, they prevent and errant material from being spread from room to room. These mats also have a waterproof backing, allowing the mat to absorb its own weight in water. Easily cleanable and in a variety of shapes, colours and materials. Another unsung hero of the home.

Coir mats

Both of the aforementioned ‘types’ of mat are usually made of rubber, but there is another type that should be considered. Coir mats are woven from natural fibres. Their major feature is that they have stiff bristles that mimic an upturned stiff broom. A great tool for deeply cleaning footwear and protecting your home from dirt. They are suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
A drawback with coir mats is that they are not rubber back and as a result won’t hold as much water as their rubber-backed relations, but a benefit is that when wet, they will dry out much quicker than the rubber type.

If you are suffering with dirt carriage into your home and don’t have mats in place, the low-cost, low-maintenance solution might just be installing entrance and/or doormats. You could see a big difference!

Don't get tripped up!

Cable Management and protection

Floor cable protector

There are many aspects and points to consider in the pursuit of maintaining of good health and safety standards in the workplace or home environment.

The more technology that hits the shelves, the more electronic equipment we, as consumers are seeming to have in our homes. What comes with electronic equipment?....wires, and lots of them. Add to that the need for a much greater need for cable management systems in office environments and it is easy to see that the future demand for this type of product is going to remain strong.

So, what are the different types?

Cable protectors come in a number of different shapes and sizes, depending on the job they’re intended for.

There are light-weight types that simply tuck cables away and keep them away and can take the weight of people standing on them. This is the type that most of us will have seen and used at the office or bought to tidy pc, dvd and telephone cables at home.

There are also much heavy-duty variants that can be used in industrial settings that can be strong enough to take heavy traffic with no damage to the cables inside.

Colouring

Cable management systems also come in a variety of bright ‘visible’ colourings to make people away of the hazard. Although it may not seem like some of the cable protectors you might see are particularly high off the ground, they do still represent a trip hazard and these colourings make them more obvious and more safe.

Protecting cables

Something that we haven’t spoken about is the cables themselves. Aptly-named cable protectors not only protect us, but keep the cables themselves intact. Trip over a wire attached to a PC and you may not hurt yourself, but you might do serious damage to the PC.

Cable management protectors are something of a silent hero, the benefit of which you might not fully appreciate until you need them. Trip over a wire and hurt yourself as a result of not having any protectors in place and you might wish you’d sorted it sooner.

Looking to purchase safety mats for your swimming pools?

Swimming Pool Mats

As a discussion point, rubber mats may not be on the tip of most people’s tongues, but if a friend or loved-one slips and injures themselves around a swimming pool, the subject comes into sharp focus.

Ideally, the importance of these would be acknowledged without serious injury to anyone required to make that point.

Bacteria

Aside from minimizing slip-risk around swimming pools, these mats play a big role in keeping microbial bacteria in such a damp area, at bay. A benefit, anyone who has ever had a foot infection or veruca will attest to.

Comfortable

Due to the fact that invariably, mats around swimming pools will be used by people walking barefoot, they are made of extremely soft and comfortable rubber. People walking comfortably are much less likely to lose their balance in what is quite a dangerous area.

Are there different thicknesses?

Yes, they come in various depths, depending on whether they’re need at public baths or round a private pool, which would obviously normally mean much less wear and tear. Usually, you will find the thickness ranges from between 9mm and 14mm.

We call them ‘rubber’ mats, but are they just rubber?

No, rubber is a very general term. Specifically, you can get mats in all PVC, or an equal mix of polyethylene and Escorene mix.

Interlocking

It is not just available in a ‘one-size fits all’ roll either. Pool mats come in interlocking tiles that can be used to created any desired shape making them ideal for any pool, anywhere… in fact not just pools. Anywhere lots of moisture is present e.g. saunas, this type of mat could prove to be worth their weight in gold if they keep everyone safe.
